Frequently asked questions

How do I start my mushroom grow kit?

To begin, open the front cover of your kit and cut a small X in the bag where indicated. Mist the exposed area with water 2–3 times a day. Keep the kit in a bright area but out of direct sunlight and it will begin to fruit in about 7–14 days.

What temperature and environment do they need?

Mushroom kits grow best at room temperature (around 15–24°C / 60–75°F) with good ventilation. Avoid places with direct sun or extreme temperatures.

How often should I mist the kit?

Mist the fruiting surface 2–5 times per day, more as mushrooms appear, to maintain moisture.

How long until I see mushrooms?

Most kits start to produce mushrooms within 7–14 days after the first cut and misting.

How many harvests can I expect?

With good care, you can typically get 2–3 flushes of mushrooms from one kit. After that, the spent block can be composted.

Can I grow mushrooms outdoors?

Our kits are designed mainly for indoor cultivation. Outdoor growing can work but requires close attention to humidity, pests, and temperature.

My kit isn’t growing — what should I do?

If pins stall, your kit may need more humidity. Stop misting for a couple of days, then soak the block in water for a short period, drain, and restart misting to rehydrate it.

When should I harvest oyster mushrooms?

Harvest when the caps are still slightly curved at the edges — just before they fully flatten. Twist gently at the base to remove.

How do I use dried oyster mushrooms?

Soak the dried mushrooms in warm water for 10–15 minutes before cooking. Once softened, they can be used like fresh mushrooms — great in soups, pasta, or stir-fries.

Can I use the soaking liquid?

Yes! The water used to rehydrate them is rich in flavour and makes a tasty stock base for soups or sauces.

How much do dried mushrooms expand?

Dried oyster mushrooms can expand up to 6–8× their original size once soaked.

How should I store dried mushrooms?

Keep them in a cool, dry place and sealed after opening to maintain freshness.

How do I use mushroom compost?

Mix mushroom compost into your existing soil (about 1 part compost to 2–3 parts soil) to improve structure and moisture retention. It can also be used as a top dressing or potting mix booster. You can use it in vegetable beds, containers, and garden soil.

Is mushroom compost safe for all plants?

Yes, mushroom compost is generally safe for most plants, but avoid using high concentrations around very young seedlings — mix it well into the soil first.

Can I use these products for edible cultivation?

Yes — oyster mushrooms grown with our kits are safe to eat when harvested at the right stage. If you have allergies, consult a professional beforehand.
